Caring for your Benchtops
Care for laminate surfaces
General cleaning
- In most cases, cleaning your laminate surface is as simple as using a damp cloth or for spills, using soap and water or windex. Always rinse properly after the use of chemical cleaners to avoid build-up on your benchtop.
- If you have stains that can’t be removed easily, try using methylated spirits. For problem spots, scrub the stain lightly with a soft brush. For stubborn stains use a small amount of mild abrasive such as toothpaste or baking soda. NEVER use strong alkaline or acidic cleaners or abrasive tools such as sandpaper.
Other Damage
- Never place hot pans or similar objects directly on the surface of the product.
- Avoid acidic foods and hair, textile and food dyes
- Never use waxes
- Avoid the use of sharp objects without protection, never cut directly onto the surface
Care for acrylic surfaces
- Corian surfaces are hygienic, impermeable and stain resistant, with no visible pores or voids, unlike tile, woods, granite and marble.
General cleaning
- For most dirt & stains use soapy water or ammonia-based cleaner and for water marks, wipe with damp cloth and towel dry. For difficult stains use an abrasive cleanser and a cleaning pad.
- For high-gloss Corian, follow procedure for semi-gloss, but use a sponge instead of a cleaning pad.
- To disinfect: occasionally wipe the surface with diluted household bleach (50/50 water/bleach solution)
Preventing Other Damage
- To prevent heat damage do not place hot pots, pans, etc directly on the counter top surface. Always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet to protect your surface.
- Avoid exposing to strong chemicals, such as paint removers and oven cleaners etc. If contact occurs, quickly flush the surface with water.
- Remove nail polish with a non-acetone based nail polish remover and flush with water.
- Do not cut directly on countertops.
- Run cold water when pouring boiling water into sinks.
